Dark Chocolate Fondue
Delectable Dark Chocolate Fondue
Chocolate fondue is something that has been popular since the 1970s and over the years, more and more varieties of fondue have come into existence. Not only are there many savory type of fondue with meats and vegetables to dip into a range of sauces, chocolate fondue is more popular than ever and no party would be complete without one.
A fondue fountain is the ideal way to serve this delicious free-for-all dish but we appreciate that not everyone has one – and in fact, melted chocolate can often be better when kept on the heat in the kitchen anyway!
There is something indescribably sophisticated about dark chocolate fondue, despite its “use your hands” approach. So if you want your romantic evening or your special dinner party to go down a treat with your guests, then you will need:
- 12 oz dark chocolate (chopped)
- 8 oz of double cream
- Pinch of salt
- Fruit, baked goods or marshmallows for dipping
- Heat the cream in a saucepan over medium heat until small bubbles begin to show and it comes lightly and slowly to the boil. Add the chocolate and stir in with a whisk until smooth and fully combined.
- Pour the melted cream-chocolate mixture into a fondue pot on a low heat, or serve straight from the pan.
- Have the dipping foods prearranged on the serving area on a platter. Provide skewers, picks or fondue forks, to allow easy dipping into the hot melted cream chocolate mixture. Eat immediately.
- If the fondue begins to feel a little stiff, add a tablespoon of heavy cream and stir. It will help it go a little longer. Get ready to do another batch because this is sure to run out quickly – especially if there are any chocolate lovers in the room.
Things to Dip in Chocolate Fondue
Fruit – Various types of fruit can go really well with your melted chocolate fountain. Strawberries, bananas, pineapple, kiwi, orange grapes, cherries, apples, pears or dried apricots are all popular combinations and can add beautifully different flavours and textures to this fun dessert.
Savouries – Pretzels and potato chips are one type of dipping item that many people might shy away from but the combination of salty and sweet when it has been dipped is fantastic, and it’s a great way of getting the crunchy texture too.
Sweets – Cookies, donuts, waffles, caramel, fudge, smores, marshmallows, and nuts are some more great dipping options. Try to avoid sweet things that crumble or you will be trying to scoop them out of the fountain for a long time!
Alternative Fondue Recipes
Of course, you could try a savory fondue such as beef which is basically a soup-gravy type sauce in which you can dip things such as meats, cheeses, breads or vegetables. It’s great as a main course that anyone can tuck into.
If you want to try alternative chocolate fondue recipes, try adding liqueurs such as Baileys or Amaretto to the chocolate and cream, or you can try adding zests, cinnamon or even espresso powder!
