7 Wine Selections For Valentine’s Day
Celebrate with wine
Wine can play a big part in the festive and love season of February, so it is a great idea to make sure you are fully stocked up with beautifully versatile wines to please the taste buds of your loved ones! Rather than trying to please everyone with a huge collection of wine, it is best to stock up on the wines that you know will appeal to everyone from the wine novices to the connoisseurs.
Louis Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Reasonably priced and made with delicious fruity flavors, this California wine is made with lovely blends of grapes which give it a subtle yet refreshing taste. Also added to the concoction are red cherries and blackcurrants, as well as the distinct scents of clove and sage.
Rex Goliath Pinot Noir
The sweetness of this wine’s berries (raspberries and strawberries) and its subtle spices makes this Pinot Noir a great Valentine’s day choice. The tannin for the wine (the oaky taste you can often get from wines) is very light which means it is a very versatile wine. Any Italian dish plus recipes with mushroom go beautifully with Pinot Noir, but this really is one of the most adaptable wines out there so practically anything goes!
Dancing Bull Zinfandel 2003
The flavours of melon, plum and raspberry on top of the black cherry make this a truly warming wine. With soft tannins and the sweet underlying flavours, this has a jammy yet smooth taste and goes really well with red meat dishes.
Telmo Rodriguez Gaba do Xil Valdeorras Mencia 2009
This is a fantastic value for money wine. Made in northern Spain, it has a fruity yet almost savory flavor, with a smoky subtlety which makes it rich and very warming. On top of its currant flavors there is an underlying tangy spice which makes it a great Valentine choice, going really well with a special Valentine dinner.
Yellow Tail Shiraz
Well priced and very fruity, the Yellow Tail Shiraz has a great berry flavor. The raspberries caress the palate and it overall offers a smooth and satisfying after taste. Serve with mild curries or alongside your hors d’oeurves.
Domaine de la Pepière Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie 2011
Made with a good clean nose, the Muscadet is deep, lively and rich in flavor and yet has a strong bite. It is full and supple yet has a light core made from lemon, chervil, honeydew skin and ripe white peach which goes really well with light fish dishes or citrus fruit dishes.
Kendall Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay 2005
This Chardonnay has a fruity and smoky flavor, which gives it a full-body. The fruits (pear, melon and apple) really shine forth and add to its smooth texture. Serve with chicken, pork or smoked salmon to bring out the flavors even further.
