It’s National Cheesecake Day today!
What more reason to indulge in this absolutely delicious dessert than today, when National Cheesecake Day is being celebrated all over! Moreover, nailing down on the history of cheesecake, it was first made in Ancient Greece, and eaten by athletes competing in the very first Olympics. So often, this day occurs close to or during the summer Olympics.
The first recorded recipe for cheesecake however comes from Greek writer, Athenaeus, in 230 AD, as pounding cheese till it’s smooth and pasty, put it in brazen sieve, add honey and flour; heat, cool and serve.
Today we know cheesecake as a dense cake with soft cheese as the primary ingredient. More in detail, Cheesecake is a dessert consisting of a topping made of soft, fresh cheese on a base made from biscuit, pastry or sponge. The topping is frequently sweetened with sugar and flavored or topped with fruit, nuts, fruit flavored drizzle and/or chocolate.
