National Pancake Day

It’s National Pancake Day today, and seeing as it’s been a few months since Shrove Tuesday (the traditional day when pancakes are eaten) why not whip up a few for breakfast, lunch, dinner…or all three?

Pancakes have been eaten all over the world for centuries, and it is only recently that they have all become one similar recipe made up of eggs, milk and flour. Originally, Christians cooked pancakes to use up all the rich foods the day before lent – a time of 40 days and nights of fasting leading up to Easter.

During the Medieval period, the pancake began to take the form of what we know as the modern day pancake, and nowadays pancakes of different varieties are eaten all over the world in both sweet and savoury varieties.
